These adorable and simple Pom-Pom Caterpillars are a fun art activity for kids to complete as an extension activity after reading the beloved book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. 

 

Kids can make their very own hungry caterpillar to play with and use to reenact the adventures of the very hungry caterpillar.

 

This simple craft for kids is easy to do and will bring the hungry caterpillar to life.

  • Allows for children to reenact the story which promotes reading comprehension and imagination

How to make a Pom-Pom Caterpillar

  • Have child pick the pom-poms they would like to use to create their caterpillar.

  • Add a line of glue to the craft stick.

  • Stick pom-poms onto the glue line.

  • Use self adhesive googly eyes-stick eyes onto the caterpillar’s head (you can also hot glue the googly eyes on)

  • Cut a small piece of pipe cleaner and bend in half

  • Using a hot glue gun- carefully glue the pipe cleaner in between the first and second pom-pom

  • Now let the caterpillar dry fully

  • Once the caterpillar is dry-child can play with their new caterpillar friend!

  • Use as a story prop when retelling with Hungry Caterpillar Sequence Cards
