Sequencing Events
First read The Snowy Day together.
Afterwards, talk with your child about the book.
What happened to Peter on his adventure?
How did he feel at different points in his day.
Ask your child what their favorite part was.
What part did they like the least.
After you have discussed the book together-it’s time to introduce the sequence cards.
Show the cards to your child and talk about the picture on each one.
Next, invite your child to put the cards in order.
You can use a clothespin line or simply have your child lay them out on the floor.
You may need to help your child at first, and you may need to reference the book to get the cards in the correct order.
Talk about what happened first, what happened in the middle of the story and what happened in the end.
Finally, read the sentence strips with your child.
Run your finger underneath each word as your read it.
Invite your child to place each sentence strip underneath the correct corresponding picture card.
Once finished, take turns retelling the story to each other using the sequencing cards!
