Download available below.
Start with Bear.
Write the letters B-e-a-r on a paper towel in a random order.
Then fill in the empty space with letters of your choice.
Set out all the materials needed for the Spray the Letter Spelling Activity.
Lay the paper towel in a tray. Set out water, pipettes and the Bear name and picture card.
Show your child the Bear cards. Read the name card out loud and spell BEAR -point to each letter as you do.
Tell your child that they get to spell the Bear’s name by dropping water on the correct letter. First start with the letter B. Ask your child what the first letter of Bear’s name is. Ask them what sounds the letter B makes. Ask your child to find the letter B and then squirt water on it! Watch as the color bleeds into the paper towel.
Continue with the letter e. Ask your child what the second letter in Bear’s name is. Ask them what sounds the letter e makes. Invite them to squirt water on the letter e.
Ask your child what the third letter in Bear’s name is. Talk about the sounds the letter a makes. Add water to the letter a.
Finally ask your child what the last letter of Bear’s name is. Ask them what sound the letter r makes. Invite them to find the r and add a drop of water to it.
Take a minute to admire the creation your child made! Talk about the colors and why they spread. Ask your child to spell Bear again- this time just pointing to the water sprayed letters, assist them if needed. Ask them to identify the letters that didn’t get wet.

Repeat the above steps with another character from the book

Keep going as long as your child is interested!
