This Snowy Letter Hunt Activity is so much fun and perfect for long winter days. Doing letter hunts are a really great hands on way to boost your child’s literacy skills. To represent the snow we are using flour and glitter, which is an inexpensive way to incorporate sensory exposure at home. Now, let’s gather our supplies and get to it!

Why are sensory activities important for kids?
Sensory activities are activities that engage one of more of a child’s senses. There are so many wonderful benefits to encourage sensory play in kids. Here is a list of 6 benefits children receive from sensory play.

Snowy Letter Hunt Activity
Print and cut the set of 6 winter themed word cards OR
Write winter themed words on note cards
Add flour and glitter to a large tray
Hide letters in the flour
Be sure to hide the correct letters for the words you will be using
Place two clothespins at the top of the tray
Place a word card inside the clothespins
Invite your child to search for the letters to spell the word written on the word card!
When finished-ask your child to spell the word out loud-pointing to each letter as they do
Change to word card, hide the letters again and continue playing
Keep going as long as your child is interested
