How to play the Playdough Word Family Spelling Game
Make playdough (see recipe here) OR
Purchase store bought play-doh
Make 6-8 small balls of playdough
Smash the playdough balls flat
Pick a word family
Using playdough letter stamps, stamp the last two letters of each word into the playdough
Set out the letter stamps needed to create the words in the word family that you picked
Introduce the game to your child
Show your child the letter stamps
Invite your child to stamp letters into the playdough to create new words
Ask your child to read the new words they’ve created
When finished, have your child roll the playdough into balls and smash them down again
Play again! Use the same word family, or pick a new word family to try
You can also keep the playdough and letter stamps out for free play and let your child play independently!
