How to play the Playdough Word Family Spelling Game

  • Make 6-8 small balls of playdough
  • Smash the playdough balls flat 
  • Pick a word family
  • Using playdough letter stamps, stamp the last two letters of each word into the playdough
  • Set out the letter stamps needed to create the words in the word family that you picked
  • Introduce the game to your child
  • Show your child the letter stamps
  • Invite your child to stamp letters into the playdough to create new words
  • Ask your child to read the new words they’ve created
  • When finished, have your child roll the playdough into balls and smash them down again
  • Play again! Use the same word family, or pick a new word family to try
  • You can also keep the playdough and letter stamps out for free play and let your child play independently!
