How to do the Magic Milk Experiment

  • Pour milk onto a plate
  • Pick three of more food colors to use
  • Add three drops of each color to the middle of the plate
  • Dip a cotton swab into liquid dish soap
  • Dab the cotton swab in the middle of the colors and watch as the colors dance around like fireworks!
  • Keep adding dish soap with the cotton swab until the milk and colors stop moving

How does the Magic Milk Experiment Work?

Milk is made up of protein, fat and minerals. When the soap is added-it breaks up the fat molecules in the milk. The soap essentially chases the fat molecules around the plate trying to attach to them. It’s like a big game of tag!
