How to Create a Cozy Reading Nook
1. quiet space
First find a quiet, small space somewhere in your home. The corner of a room works really well for creating a kid’s reading corner. You can also get creative and turn a large closet or small storage space into an adorable, whimsical reading nook!
2. room separator
Once you’ve decided where to put the reading corner, it’s time to think about how to separate the space. It’s important to separate the reading space from the rest of the room. This will help your child stay focused and less distracted while reading. Canopies, tepees and curtains are all adorable and simple ways to separate a reading nook and will allow your child to become fully engaged in their reading!
3. add seating
Next add some soft, inviting, kid-friendly seating. Try a fuzzy bean bag chair, soft over-sized pillows, lounger seats or a cozy kids sized reading chair.
4. cozy touches
Now it’s time to have some fun by adding in a few soft, cozy elements. Add some stuffed animals, fluffy rugs, soft blankets and pillows. The more cozy and inviting you can make your child’s reading space the more time they will spend in it!
5. bookshelf
Pick a bookshelf that will allow your child to reach their books safely and easily. If you don’t want to add a bookshelf, try adding a large basket to place on the floor and fill it with books!
6. add books
Fill your child’s reading corner with a variety of books. Include fiction, non-fiction, picture books, chapter books, magazines and biographies. Add books that are below, at and above your child’s reading level.
7. soft lighting
Lastly, add a beautiful soft glow to your child’s reading space with lamps and fairy lights! Soft lighting creates a calm, serene environment-perfect for curling up with blanket and a good book!
