Free Writing for Kids

Keep a wide variety of writing supplies on hand and available for your child to use independently.
Encourage your child to write books whenever they feel inspired to do so!

Writing books will look different for every child depending on their age and stage of development.

For some it will look like a lot of scribbles, for others it will be filled with lots of drawings.  Some children will be able to write letters in random order or letters that represent words.

Older children will be able to write sentences.
Keep the books your child makes in a basket or bin. Not only will it be fun to watch as your child’s writing ability improves, but it also shows your child that their book writing is important and has value.
