directions

First gather all the materials needed to complete the marbled painting project. Then set everything out for your child.
Fill a tray or dish with shaving cream. Just use a thin layer. This will allow you to add more shaving cream to the top when your child wants a clean slate.
Add food coloring drops to the shaving cream.
Use a stick to swirl the shaving cream. Be sure not to stir too much or the colors will turn brown. Just swirl a few times.

Fun fact-How do you make brown? By mixing and mixing primary colors together.
Place the heart cutout on top of the shaving cream.
Take the heart out of the shaving cream and lay it on a tray. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes. I found that the longer the shaving cream sits on the heart-the more vibrant the colors become.
Finally use a large craft stick or ruler to scrape off the shaving cream.
Admire the unique and beautiful painting your child created!

tips and tricks

  • Card stock heart paper cutouts produce more vibrant colors-however the sides of the heart will curl up
  • Foam hearts stay sturdy-but may not be as vibrant-they still turn out beautifully though!
  • Only stir the food coloring into the shaving cream a few times or it may turn brown
  • Let shaving cream sit on the heart for 10-15 minutes before you scrape it off -this will produce more vibrant colors
  • Use neon food coloring for really bright creations
  • Have LOTS of paper towels near by and available during this project for easy clean up
  • If your child would like a clean base -simply add a fresh layer of shaving cream to the top
