Bleeding Tissue Paper crafts are quite popular in our house. Even though they can be a bit messy, we keep doing them because they create the most beautifully colorful creations!

This simple art activity for kids is a wonderful way for children to experiment with color and water in order to create their very own unique piece of art!

Warning-this may stain your child’s fingers for about a day or so.

materials

  • Bleeding tissue paper (make sure the tissue paper is labeled as “bleeding”, or the color may not transfer onto the paper)
  • Paper (thick, card-stock or watercolor paper works best)
  • Paint brush
  • Water

How to create Bleeding Tissue Paper Art

  • Before you begin, lay down newspaper, paper towels or place the piece of paper in a tray or cookie sheet to avoid staining your table
  • Dip paintbrush into a small bowl of water
  • “Paint” the entire paper with water 
  • Next, add tissue paper squares to the wet paper
  • Encourage your child to continue adding tissue paper squares
  • If the paper starts to dry, re-wet with the paint brush
  • Once your child is finished, leave the paper out to dry overnight 
  • Once fully dry-simply ask your child to wipe off the dried tissue paper squares 
  • The tissue paper squares should slide off very easily once they have completely dried
  • Admire the finsiehd project together!
  • Talk about the effect and the colors created
  • Proudly display your child’s artwork!
