Step by Step Directions

add baking soda

  • Fill the bottom of a tray with baking soda

add food coloring

  • Pour vinegar into jars or cups
  • Add food coloring to each jar

  • Invite your child to use the pipettes to add colored vinegar to the baking soda using pipettes
  • This is an open ended activity-encourage your child to create whatever they feel inspired to
  • Talk about the chemical reaction they see happening!

  • Add spoons, cups and any dishes or sand tools that you have around the house
  • Invite your child to dig and explore!

  • Ask your child if they want to pour the colored vinegar into the tray
  • Watch the reaction that occurs!

Extend your child's learning by sharing scientific facts. Introduce new vocabulary words while you're talking. Discuss what the words mean and try to use the new vocab words in conversation over the next couple of weeks.
