5 little pumpkins math activity

This is a fun, simple, math extension activity to pair with the song Five Little Pumpkins and is always a hit with kids!  Not only is it fun but it’s also an easy way to help kids reinforce important math concepts!
5 little pumpkins activity
  1. First, find five mini pumpkins, or pumpkin cutouts.
  2. Draw a fence on a piece of construction paper or help your child build a fence like structure with blocks or other building materials you have around the house.
  3. Set the pumpkins on top of the fence.
  4. Count the pumpkins together. Be sure to point out the position of each pumpkin.
  5. Talk about which pumpkin is first, second, third, forth and fifth.
  6. Sing the song Five Little Pumpkins together. Raffi sings a great version of the song
  7. While you sing the song together be sure to point to each pumpkin as you sing about it.

5 Little Pumpkins lyrics

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate

The first one said “Oh MY it’s getting late”

The second one said “There are witches in the air”

The third one said “Well we don’t care”

The forth one said “Let’s run and run and run”

The fifth one said “I am ready for some fun!”

Ooh-woo went the wind and

OUT (clap hands) went the lights and the

Five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

(“Roll” all of the pumpkins off the fence.)
